Past Tense

Past tense merupakan bentuk waktu yang digunakan untuk membicarakan masa ‘lampau’. Berdasarkan sifat kegiatannya, past tense ini juga dibagi menjadi 4 macam :
1.     Simple past tense
2.     Past continuous tense
3.     Past perfect tense
4.     Past perfect continuous tense


1.SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Formula        Kalimat verbal (predikatnya kata kerja)
           Possitive form    S + V2 + Objek/komplemen

                    → Kalimat nominal (predikatnya bukan kata kerja )
           Possitive form    S + to be (was,were) + O/C


Contoh :        -. Reza watched a football match yesterday
                     -. Doni was very sad hearing the news



           Negative form     S + did + not + V1 + O/C
                                           S + was/were + not + O/C

Contoh :        -. Chika did not come to my party last night
                     -. We were not happy yesterday



         Introgative form       Did + S + V1 + O/C + ...... + ?
                                                Was/were + S + O/C + ?

          Contoh :        -. Did you go to the mall last week ?
                               -. Were you scared last night ?



FUNGSI
1.     Menyatakan sesuatu yang terjadi pada saat tertentu di masa lalu. Ex: She called you two hours ago.
2.     Menyatakan kebiasaan di masa lalu (sekarang sudah tidak menjadi kebiasaan). Ex: I was at your house the day before.

KETERANGAN WAKTU : yesterday, last .... , this morning ... , before, etc.
 

2. PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
            Formula        Kalimat verbal : S + to be + Ving
                                →Kalimat nominal : S + to be + being + C
FUNGSI
Menyatakan sesuatu yang sedang terjadi pada masa lampau pada saat kejadian lain terjadi. Example :
*. Emily was washing her clothes at that moment
*. He came while I was sleeping

KETERANGAN WAKTU : at the time, at the moment, etc.
